VIT has excellent infrastructure like the CAD/CAM Centers, Central Library, Computing Center to name a few. The Mechanical Engineering Department started in 1984 and was renamed as the School of Mechanical & Building Sciences (SMBS) when VIT University received the Deemed University status in 2001. It has well equipped laboratories like:

Fluid Mechanics Lab
Thermal Engineering Lab
Advanced Manufacturing Process Lab
Trilogy and Machine Dynamic.

A state-of-the-art Automotive Research Center was setup, with financial funding from DST, New Delhi in 2003 and Center for Engineering Design, Automotive & Manufacturing Engineering was set up in 2012.

ARAI is a well-known Automotive Research, Development, Testing & Certification Institute in the country. It has state-of-the-art testing facilities and laboratories like the PowerTrain Engineering Lab, Emission Certification Lab, Safety & Homologation Lab, Passive Safety Lab, Vehicle Evaluation Lab, Structural Dynamics Lab, Automotive Electronics Lab, Automotive Materials Lab and NVH & CAE Lab. Recently under NATRiP Funding, ARAI has established Homologation and Testing Center (HTC) at Chakan, where testing related to BS VI and Crash test for Safety regulations are conducted. It also has State of the Art Structural Dynamics lab and Transmission Evaluation Lab.

The students get the latest training, which help them to meet the requirements of the Automotive Industry.

M. Tech (Automotive Engineering)

Eligibility: - B.E / B.Tech / AMIE in Mechanical/Automobile/Production/Manufacturing Engineeringor Mechatronics, with a valid VIT Masters Entrance Examination (VITMEE) Score.Preference is given to industry sponsored candidates.

About ARAI Academy

As per Automotive Mission Plan (AMP-2016), it is proposed to make India as an international automotive hub, not only in the field of manufacturing but also in R&D and innovation.

The Indian automotive industry is one of the fastest growing in the world. This sector is looking at an accelerated growth and the vision is to change India's position in vehicle production from 11th to 7th. In such a scenario, dedicated automotive education, research, training and knowledge dissemination will provide the perfect impetus for the next generation of industry professionals who will fuel this growth.

The Objective of ARAI Academy is to develop World-class Eco-friendly Academy at ARAI for Undergraduate, Masters, Doctoral and Professional Improvement Courses in Automotive Engineering in collaboration with National and International Universities. All the necessary infrastructural facilities like classrooms, offices, laboratories, library, auditorium, discussion rooms, computer rooms, audio-visual facilities, etc. are available at ARAI.
